My Super Ex-Girlfriend can only be summed up in one word - hilarious.
SPOILER WARNING: Plot and/or ending details follow.
This ain’t your typical superhero movie where the superhero saves the earth from a supervillain, but it’s a romantic comedy with superhero essense and some romance and sex, of course. Uma Thurman plays both Jenny Johnson and G-girl and she is just awesome. Jenny Johnson is a needy, controlling and manupulative woman (ain’t all women like that?) and as Matt Saunders (played by Luke Wilson) befriends her, he doesn’t know what’s in place for him.

On the subway one day, Matt, played by Luke Wilson is goaded by his friend Vaughn (Rainn Wilson) into asking out the librarian-type woman sitting a few seats away. Vaughn told Matt, she’s gentle on the outside but wild in the inside. Matt then asks the woman, Jenny, played by Uma Thurman, if she’d like to go out with him sometime, to which she replies with a definite, “No.” Before Matt can retreat in defeat, Jenny’s purse is snatched, and the culprit runs off the subway. Matt pursues him until the thief is nearly hit by a car, causing him to drop the purse. Matt claims the purse and jeers off the thief but before he knows it, the criminal comes back with a steel bar he picks somewhere from the street. He gives Matt a chase and Matt ends up hiding in the dumpster. When Matt comes out from the dumpster, Jenny appears to be waiting right outside and Matt returns the purse to her, who is intrigued by Matt and agrees to a date.
For their first date they go out to a restaurant where Matt finds Jenny to be very talkative, nervous, and a bit neurotic. Jenny, with her super-hearing, heard of a fire in downtown. She excuses herself to go to the bathroom, and flies off to put out the fire as G-girl. Meanwhile, Vaughn is on the phone with Matt and tells him that G-girl is putting out a fire. Vaughn describes G-girl as blurry as she is spinning herself to put out the fire. Upon her return, Matt notices a smudge on her face. She excuses herself to go to the bathroom again, leaving Matt feeling very puzzled.

Meanwhilst, we see that Matt works as a project manager for an architectural firm with the lovely Hannah (Anna Faris), whom he secretly loves. Hannah has a supermodel boyfriend and Matt has met him five times but the dumb-ass boyfriend of Hannah keeps forgetting meeting Matt. Matt and Hannah’s boss, Carla is portrayed by Wanda Sykes, who serves as comic relief by harassing Matt for perceived sexual harassment against Hannah. Several times, Matt was seen admiring the curves Hannah has and was caught red-handed by Carla. Hannah’s just hot too for any man with her leggy curves busting out of her grey business dress.
Matt and Jenny go on a couple more dates, where Jenny displays aggressive and demanding tendencies. Later at Matt’s apartment, Jenny criticizes his kisses but initiates a sexual encounter with Matt that leaves him with a broken bed and a cracked wall. The following morning we see that, though he seems to have enjoyed himself, he is limping down the street and agonizing in pain.
Then, out of nowhere, two men grabs Matt and pulls him into a limousine. Professor Bedlam (Eddie Izzard) is the man behind it and he questions Matt about Jenny. As Matt tells the professor that it’s not a very nice to talk about other people’s private stuff, Professor Bedlam then arrange his men to hang Matt upside down with a rope tied to his leg on the Statue of Liberty. Professor Bedlam then sends Jenny a picture message with Matt’s picture teasing her about dating a loser. G-girl comes to rescue Matt and asks him not to look at her face.
Soon after, Jenny takes him to her apartment to reveal her super identity, the superhero G-girl since she feels she should be honest with him. She tells him her story, which begins back in high school, where she befriended fellow geek Barry, now known as her archnemesis Professor Bedlam. Their friendship blossomed into something more, and one night during their junior year they decide to consummate their relationship in his car in the woods but Barry has trouble unzipping his pants. This is interrupted when they see what appears to be a meteor streak through the sky. It crashes into the earth nearby, and a curious Jenny sets out to see it. Barry follows her and warns her not to touch the meteorite which Jenny actually ignores. She touches the glowing meteorite, which explodes on contact, knocking the teenagers off their feet. The meteor rock has transformed Jenny from a geeky brunette into a voluptous and blonde girl. Barry struggles to his feet and is dumbfounded at the sight of Jenny. Following this incident, Jenny becomes more popular at school and, according to her, Barry leaves her behind.
Her story fascinates Matt and Matt suggests Jenny to dress up as G-girl for their sexual encounter. She happily complies, but Matt’s excitement gives way to terror as she takes him for a flight. As they flew higher and higher into the sky, Matt begins to feel terrified even though Jenny is unperturbed with her busy mid-air sexual act with Matt.
The next day Matt and Hannah are at a construction site in New Jersey. Matt tells Hannah he has got a splinter in his finger and Hannah sucks it out for him. Jenny appears to have seen what Hannah has done and she is visibly upset at the rapport between the co-workers, and is not at all satisfied when Matt suggests that they all go on a double date. However, that night at dinner, Hannah’s beau fails to make an appearance, leaving only the three of them. Hannah’s gloom is interrupted by a newcast on a nearby television reporting on three missiles that is headed straight for New York. Jenny ignores the news and looks around for a waiter. Matt attempts to hint at the possibility of someone coming to the rescue, and Jenny resists, reluctant to leave Matt and Hannah alone. But she finally throws down her menu to fly off and stop the missiles by kicking them. The missiles explode in mid-air and she returns to the restaurant to find Hannah and Matt euphoric and hugging each other. In the car, she accuses Matt of wanting to sleep with Hannah and in a fit accidentally breaks the passenger side window.
At the gym, Matt tells Vaughn his problems and the raunchy Vaughn suggests him to break up with Jenny either the “jerk” way or the “weenie” way. That night Matt explains to her that they need some time off. Jenny, who was cutting up vegetables for dinner, slams the knife she is holding into the cutting board and throws Matt into the fridge. She tells him that he will regret this, and flies off through his ceiling, leaving a gaping hole.
The next couple of days Jenny comes back to Matt’s house through his ceiling which Matt tells her he has just got that fixed. She then says she wants to borrow the telescope and tells Matt to look into his telescope. Matt then sees that Jenny has flung his car into space, with the words “You Suck” written all over. She later uses her laser vision to inscribe the word “DICK” to his forehead. When Matt goes to a very important meeting, he turns out late with a snowcap covering his forehead. Jenny then swoops into the meeting room in a whirlwind, messing up all the papers in the room and, in the process strips all Matt’s clothes getting him fired. Afterwards, as Hannah helps Matt to rub off the word “DICK” from his forehead, Vaughn admits he’s the actual dick.
Professor Bedlam then pays Matt a visit with a proposition to help him bring down G-girl once and for all. Matt refuses, knowing that despite his fears, the city needs G-girl.
After the meeting with Professor Bedlam, Matt proceeds to pack to leave the city. He gets a message on his answering machine from a distressed Hannah. He rushes over to her apartment only to find that Hannah is upset over finding her boyfriend in bed with not one, but two women (and possibly a third). Relieved that she is safe, Matt finally confesses to her his feelings for her. Hannah is perfect for Matt, they have perfect chemistry and her thoughtfulness is just amazing. Hannah responds to Matt’s words by pouncing on him and taking him to bed with her. They wake up together in the morning, perfectly contented. That is, until the look out the window to see that G-girl is holding a shark by its tail. She throws the shark through the window, narrowly missing Matt. He scrambles to escape the razor-sharp teeth, and the irate shark eventually throws itself out a window, landing in the street below causing road accidents. Hannah is bewildered as to why G-girl would throw a shark at him. Matt, who has pretty much had it with his ex-girlfriend, tells Hannah that he has something to do, and takes off.
He rushes to find Professor Bedlam. While waiting in the foyer, Matt stumbles upon a shrine dedicated to Jenny that is covered with photos of Jenny. Bedlam quickly shuts up the shrine and tells him that he is actually planning to retire from being a supervillain, and Matt agrees to help him with his nefarious plan so long as the professor makes good on his promise to retire. The professor agrees, and shows Matt a piece of the meteorite in his fridge. He reveals to Matt that this piece will have a reverse effect now, and needs Matt to lure Jenny to it so that it may draw away her powers, leaving her a mere mortal once again.
Matt agrees to the plan, and seeks out Jenny at her art gallery a bouquet of roses in his hand. He tells her that he has made a mistake, and that he’s madly in love with her. She happily takes him back, and agrees to meet him at his apartment that night for a surprise. She goes to meet him out on the veranda of his house, where he has a candlelit dinner waiting with a large gift box. Hannah who is worried about Matt, arrives at the apartment. She is upset at the sight of them, but Jenny just tells her to get lost. The two gets into a catfight, exposing Jenny’s super identity when Hannah accidentally removes Jenny’s wig. And Vaughn shows up in the middle of it with two tickets for a game. As the fight has gone underway, Matt tells Vaughn to open up the box, thus exposing the meteorite and sucking away Jenny’s powers. As she lies on the floor helpless, berating Matt for what he has done, Professor Bedlam shows up with no intent of keeping his promise to retire from villainy by pointing a gun at them. As Matt and Vaughn struggle with the professor and his minions, Jenny begins crawling towards the meteor. Matt shouts at Hannah to stop her and the two women wrestle until there is an explosion, knocking everyone present off their feet, with Hannah falling off the side of the building. G-girl returns, visibly angry, but there is a twist as Hannah flies up from the ground in wonder, her hair now red. Hannah has also gained super powers from the meteor rock. She and G-girl start fighting again, and the guys (Vaughn excluded, as he is distracted by an attractive woman) follow them until they crash into a fashion show. Matt breaks up the fight and reasons with Jenny. He then reveals to her someone who truly does love her, and always has - Professor Bedlam. He admits to it, and the two embrace.
That night Matt takes Hannah home with him, where she proceeds to take things one step further then Jenny; she actually sends the bed through the wall and into the next apartment. The next morning they leave the building hand-in-hand to find Barry and Jenny standing next to Matt’s burnt car. Jenny promises to replace it, but suddenly she hears cries for help. Hannah hears the same thing and shyly asks if she could help. Jenny allows her to as they both take off. Barry and Matt wave them off with the women’s handbags in their hands. Matt then suggests to grab some beers together.
As the movie ends, some humorous animated credits featuring the characters appears (so, don’t leave the cinema just yet). Somehow, GSC has cut short an additional scene of Vaughn, who took the attractive woman home with him, admits that he hasn’t had sex in over a year. The woman then proceeds to pounce on him.
Luke Wilson, Anna Farris, Eddie Izzard, Rainn Wilson and of course, Uma Thurman all played their roles well. I just love this movie, I could actually watch it the second time.
Overall, it’s a hilarious movie. Though, I ain’t a huge fan of Uma, I think she’s pretty aight in this movie. As a conclusion, the movie’s funny but contains quite a bunch of sexual-related elements which is not suitable for kids.
He broke her heart. She broke his everything. LoL!
