This year, 2007, Haägen-Dazs has come out with its very own Haägen-Dazs ice-cream mooncake for mid-autumn festival like all the previous years. The flavors include Macadamia Nut, Strawberry, Cookies and Cream and Chocolate Green Tea. The substitute for egg-yolk is, of course, like the previous years – the usual mango sorbet. Each mooncake is coated with rich, creamy Belgian chocolate.

The price for a single mooncake is about MYR 34, and the price for four is around MYR 128 (please correct me if I am wrong). I remember when it first started, the Haägen-Dazs ice-cream mooncake was priced at around MYR 18 each or MYR 68 for four!

Available in four flavors, namely, Tiramisu, Hazelnut Latte, Berries Cheese and Green Tea Chocolate, the mooncakes are available in two packages, Premium Mooncake Gift Box or Regular Mooncake Gift Box retailing at MYR 98 and MYR 50 respectively.

Only available in Malaysia. In Singapore, they have a different version and price starts from SGD $30.

Every year, Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar. This year, it falls on October 6, 2006. The traditional food of this festival is the moon cake. Moon cake, which used to have limited varities, now have hundred of varities to choose from.

Starbucks Malaysia, in particular has comeout with mooncakes in two flavors – tiramisu and green tea chocolate. Okay, stop drooling. Get yours from your nearest Starbucks in Malaysia and selected countries only. The price is MYR 50 for a box of four.

Other companies like Kam Lun Tai, Oversea Restaurant and The Baker’s Cottage have come out with dozen of flavors from Ginseng Mooncake to Citrus Barley.

Oh yeah, Häagen-Dazs, as usual, has come out with ice-cream mooncake. Oh boy. The price is MYR 68 for a box of four.

Well, though I don’t really fancy mooncakes, Häagen-Dazs and Starbucks have pretty good and tempting ones. I have had Häagen-Dazs before and they are so good, they sell like hot cakes. Certain flavors are very quickly sold out in most branches. So get ‘em before they’re all gone!
