Cloverfield is about a monster attack in New York as told from the point of view of a small group of people.
SPOILER WARNING: Plot and/or ending details follow.
The movie begins with U.S. Government showing footage which was recovered from the site formerly known as Central Park.
Hud (T.J. Miller) is Rob’s (Michael Stahl-David) best friend and is being entrusted to tape a farewell party for Rob. Everything is well in the Manhattan apartment until a news of an oil tanker near the Statue of Liberty has capsized. Many people head to the roof to see what happen only to witness a huge explosion in the distance. From then on, everything goes chaos.

Michael Stahl-David, Lizzy Caplan and Jessica Lucas in Cloverfield
A note of caution though, since the movie is shown entirely through handheld video ala The Blair Witch Project (except the video quality on the handheld camera is extremely good), many of the cinema goers ended up leaving the cinema half-way. A few ended up vomiting the in toilet. So, this film is not for you if you easily feel nauseous.
The monster is really no big deal. There is not many scenes showing the monsters and the baby monsters. And the abrupt ending of the movie with everyone’s dead does not leave any explanation for all of us, the moviegoers.
Many people have anticipated for this movie, but I have to say this movie is really disappointing. Worse than In the Name of the King. I’ll say, just wait for it to show on HBO. Till then, go watch the repeat of the great American Gangster.
