2008 winner Dayana Mendoza crowned Miss Venezuela, Stefania Fernandez as Miss Universe 2009

Miss Venezuela, Stefania Fernandez, was crowned Miss Universe 2009 in Nassau, Bahamas as she triumphed over 82 other contestants. It was the second consecutive year Miss Venezuela won the Miss Universe title.

Fernandez, 18, overcome the other finalists from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Kosovo, and Australia to become the sixth Miss Venezuela to be crowned Miss Universe.

Miss Dominican Republic, Ada Aimee de la Cruz was the first runner-up while Miss Kosovo was the second runner-up.

Japan’s finalist for the Miss Universe pageant has modified her costume after triggering a national shock over her chosen outfit of a black leather mini kimono that exposed her hot pink underwear.

The blog of Emiri Miyasaka, 25, was flooded with indignant comments over the daring creation.

Emiri Miyasaka who is set to represent Japan at the Miss Universe pageant in the Bahamas this month has since altered her costume.

Miss Venezuela was crowned Miss Universe 2008 on Monday Miss USA stole the limelight as she fell down during the evening gown competition to make it second year in a row.

The new Miss Universe, Dayana Mendoza, 5-foot, 10-inch (178-centimeter), was once kidnapped in her homeland and says the experience taught her to remain poised under pressure. Mendoza, 22, is a green-eyed beauty who enjoys learning languages and photography.

Miss USA, Crystle Stewart of Texas, tripped on the train of her bejeweled evening gown as she made her entrance.

During the 2007 Miss Universe contest in Mexico City, Miss USA Rachel Smith also fell during the evening gown competition and became an unintended star on YouTube, where the video was shown over and over again.

Miss Japan Riyo Mori Crowned Miss Universe 2007

Miss Japan Riyo Mori was crowned Miss Universe 2007 as the 20-year-old defeated 77 other candidates from around the world. Natalia Guimaraes of Brazil was the first runner-up while Ly Jonaitis of Venezuela was the second runner-up.

Donald Trump, who co-owns the pageant with NBC said “She is an amazing champion, an amazing woman and I hear that they go totally insane in Japan, so that’s good.”

2007 Miss Universe Pageant

The 2007 Miss Universe Pageant will be held in Mexico City on May 28. Although initial expectations were that ninety delegates would participate, only 77 candidates will compete for the title.
