Citigroup is planning to lay off 10% of its global workforce which could add up to close to 40,000 depending on the number of asset sales, such as spinning off businesses the firm could pull off in addition to additional planned layoffs.
The company experienced a full year of losses and a nearly 70% plunge in its stock price.
