AC Milan Outclasses Liverpool To Win Champions League

On a night of nothing but bad refereeing, bad game plays and nothing exciting, AC Milan’s Filippo Inzaghi took advantage of Liverpool’s mistakes to score two goals, each in each half to seal AC Milan’s seventh Champions League trophy. The result, AC Milan 2, Liverpool 1.

Liverpool’s coach, Rafael Benetiz surprised everyone by starting with one striker, Dirk Kuyt with Steven Gerrard just right behind him instead of the usual 4-4-2. In the midfield, he put both Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano. That gamble proved useful only at stopping Kaka’s freedom to roam freely but it proved fatal in the offence department as Dirk Kuyt only managed to get a goal back at the dying minutes, which just wasn’t enough.

Intead of getting their sixth trophy like AC Milan already had before the game, Liverpool gave it away after Xabi Alonso conceded a sure-death freekick just right outside the penalty box. Pirlo made a furious shot which was believed to touch Inzaghi’s hand but the goal was allowed. In the second half, once again it was Pippo. Inzaghi managed to escape Liverpool’s offside trap and tapped the ball just before Reina could stop him. Dirk Kuyt managed to pull one back from heading the ball in from a corner in the dying minutes but some Italian acting, which delayed some of the precious minutes and bad refereeing where the referee blew the whistle even before the real injury time was over made sure the Milanese won their seventh Champions League trophy, just two short of Real Madrid unprecedented nine trophies!

Barcelona Wins, Draws But Loses

On a night where they have got 72% possession, Barcelona could not make the most out of it and only managed a goal through a former Chelsea player, Eidur Gudjohnsen at the 75th minute. They won the game 1-0 at Anfield. But, that means it’s 2-2 draw in aggregate and that also means Barcelona loses on away goal. Liverpool will proceed to the quarterfinal of the Champions League.

Other results saw Chelsea scraped back from a goal down to beat Porto 2-1, Inter and Valencia had a scoreless draw but Valencia advances to the next round, while AS Roma beats Lyon in Lyon.
