In Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) forms an uneasy alliance with a group of extraterrestrial misfits who are on the run after stealing a coveted orb. Guardians of the Galaxy is the tenth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, and Benicio del Toro and directed by Peter Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy opens on August 1, 2014.
Lawrence Talbot (Benicio del Toro) returns to Blackmoor when his brother’s fiancée, Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt) writes him a letter requesting help to track down his brother, Ben. When he reaches his old house, he is greeted by his father, Sir John (Anthony Hopkins) only to tell him of the death of his brother.
He finds a medallion from his brother’s belongings and is led to a nearby gypsy’s camp. Despite his father’s warning, he heads to the gypsy’s camp on a full moon and a werewolf turns up and attacks the entire camp, end up killing most of the villagers. When a young boy tries to escape from the camp, the werewolf goes after him. Lawrence ensues but the boy refuses to listen to him. Consequently, Lawrence is attacked and bitten by the werewolf but is saved when the villagers find him and fire their guns.
Although Lawrence is severely wounded and taken to his father after getting some light treatment from a gypsy named Maleva, he heals extremely fast by next morning. This instance brings Inspector Aberline (Hugo Weaving) to pay him a visit and asks him a series of questions. Soon after, priests and local religious men come over to arrest him but Lawrence is saved by his father.
On the night of full moon, Lawrence follows his father and finds him hiding in a cell below the crypt. Sir John then locks himself with Lawrence outside transforming into a werewolf for the very first time. He attacks and kills many villagers.
The next morning, Lawrence wakes up in his human form and is arrested by Aberline, and is sent to the mental institution his father once sent him as a child. He later realizes his father is bitten by a wolfboy during his expedition in India and that his father has killed his mother and Ben. Lawrence vows to kill his father and Sir John relishes the challenge.
When the court tries to prove werewolves do not exist, Lawrence turns into a werewolf and kills a few of the men before escaping to London. Aberline chases him down but fails to kill him. Lawrence travels back to Blackmoor in order to kill his father.
As Lawrence reaches Blackmoor, he confronts his father as both transform into werewolves and fight with each other. Lawrence triumphs over his father when he overthrows him into the fire to kill him. Gwen and Aberline arrive at the manor at the same time and as Lawrence tries to chase after Gwen, Aberline attempts to stop him, but ends up getting bitten.
In the end, Gwen manages to kill Lawrence with a silver bullet passed by Aberline, but a wolf howl is heard, presumably from Aberline.
Both Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro excelled in the movie, overshadowing nearly the entire casts. The special effect of the transformation from a human form to werewolf is extremely real while the movie can sometimes gives you unnecessary creepy feelings.
Overall, it is an underrated film with incredibly talented actors and great special effects. Although the film is entertaining to watch, somehow, it lacks the elements which separates a good film from a mediocre one. In this case, The Wolfman is mediocre.
