Wong Mew Choo Slays Dragons in China Open

Wong Mew Choo is ecstatic after beating Xie XingfangMalaysia’s Wong Mew Choo won the China Open Super Series’ women’s singles in Guangzhou, China by defeating world No. 1 Xie Xingfang of China, 21-16, 8-21, 21-17. Mew Choo, who is ranked 8th has earlier slayed Zhang Ning and Zhu Lin of China in the semi-finals and quater-finals respectively.

It was Wong Mew Choo’s first Open title in her badminton career. She pocketed USD $17,250 (MYR 58,650) for her historic feat on Sunday.

Malaysian Men’s Double Creates History By Winning All-England

Koo Kien Keat & Tan Boon Heong becomes the first Malaysian pair to win All-England in 15 years! The last time Malaysian have won the All-England Men’s Doubles was back in 1982 by Razif-Jalani Sidek. The gutty Malaysian pair beats world number one pair, Cai Yun & Fu Haifeng in straight sets, 21-15, 21-18. The Chinese pair did not provide much resistance to the Malaysian pair and were easily tamed in straight sets. Throngs of Malaysian supporters were surrounding the stadium providing morale support and some even chanted “Malaysia Boleh!”.
