Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the first animated Star Wars film and the seventh Star Wars feature film after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The film is intended to act as a curtain-raiser to a TV series of the same name which will be released after the movie in August 2008.

SPOILER WARNING: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano

The Clone Wars takes place between Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. There is an ongoing Clone Wars between the Separatist and the Galactic Republic. Jabba the Hutt’s son, is kidnapped by an unknown group. Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson) tries to contact Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (James Arnold Taylor) for help but to no avail. In the meantime, Anakin and Obi-Wan, together with the aid of Captain Rex (Dee Bradley Baker), are having trouble defending from the Separatist forces. Anakin and Obi-Wan attempts to call for backup but their communication devices also have problem.

The wise Yoda sends Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Drane), a Togruta, along as Anakin’s apprentice. Anakin refuses to accept a Padawan as his apprentice at first but later on, he begins to enjoy the partnership despite his erratic disposition. Ahsoka is a quick learner and she manages to save Anakin’s life during the attempt to remove enemy’s shield.

After disposing the Separatist forces, Anakin along with Ahsoka change their priority to rescue Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta the Huttlet. Obi-Wan goes to find Jabba the Hutt to negotiate with him.

Anakin and Obi-Wan later on discovers that it is Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) who is behind the kidnapping. Count Dooku frames the Jedi as the one who kidnapped Jabba the Hutt’s son and accused of the Jedi to have a plot to kill Jabba the Hutt.

Count Dooku unleashes his minions, including Asajj Ventress, to cause havoc for the Republic and to make a three way war between the Galactic Republic, the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Hutts.

Overall, Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a great animated film with a great storyline that will continue into the TV series. The movie is entertaining and intriguing at the same time. A must-watch for any Star Wars fans.

My ratings: 8 out of 10.
