President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”. The announcement comes as a surprise to many as Obama won the Noble prize after just eight months he becomes the President and the nomination for the prize came less than two weeks after Obama took office.

New York Post has insulted Obama by referring the President as a chimpanzee. A photo of Obama signing the stimulus bill appeared in Tuesday’s Post, one page before the cartoon. Readers of New York Post who turned the page went right from Obama photo to the chimpanzee comic.

Three-time Academy Award winner Jack Nicholson announced his endorsement for Democratic candidate, Hillary Rodham Clinton, in a very original and successful manner. Nicholson released a video on You Tube featuring scenes from some of his most famous movies. The video has been viewed more than 1.2 million times.

The video is meant to help Clinton get into state primaries Tuesday in Texas and Ohio. The video contains excerpts from Batman, The Shining, Chinatown and A Few Good men.

Other celebrities endorsing Clinton are director Steven Spielberg, actress-singer Barbra Streisand and actress Eva Longoria-Parker.

Meanwhile, Clinton’s rival, Obama enjoys the support of celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney and Robert De Niro. Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons has also announced his endorsement for Obama.

As President Bush took a question Thursday in the White House Rose Garden about scandals involving his Attorney General, he remarked, “I’ve got confidence in Al Gonzales doin’ the job.”

Simultaneously, a sparrow flew overhead and left a splash on the President’s sleeve, which Bush tried several times to wipe off.

Deputy White House Press Secretary Dana Perino promptly put the incident through the proper spin cycle, telling ABC News, “It was his lucky day…everyone knows that’s a sign of good luck.”

Japan’s Royal Heir Named Hisashito

The first boy to be born into Japan’s imperial family in nearly 41 years was named Prince Hisashito yesterday in a private ceremony in Tokyo hospital where his mother is recovering from Caesarean section, the Imperial Household Agency said.

“Hisa” means “serenity” or “permanence,” while the Chinese character “hito,” traditionally used for heirs to the throne, means “the highest moral standard.”

The baby’s parents, Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko, chose the name, which was written on a piece of handmade Japanese washi paper, placed in a paulownia wood box and laid by the child’s pillow in a brief ceremony known as Meimei noGi.
