The movie is basically about a silver prospector Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis) who accidentally discovers crude oil deposits in 1898. Soon, after the confirmation of the oil presence, Plainview slowly begins his oil business from initial extraction operations to finally earning enough money to build a small drilling company. Along the way, he has adopted a child and names him H.W. (Dillon Freasier), whom at the time was still a baby. Whenever he deals with his prospects, he uses H.W. as his “partner”. Most of the time, he succeeds in his deeds with his cute little son besides him. By 1911 he is one of the most successful oil men in California.

Daniel Day-Lewis performed incredibly well as an “oilman”. The movie is pretty mundant generally and perhaps is not suitable for all viewers. Mind you though, it’s this type of film that usually wins the Academy Awards.

My ratings: 8 out of 10 (9 for the phrase “You’re a bastard from a basket!”). Great movie.
