Everyone loves ice-cream. Well, almost everyone. There are many types of ice-cream and many flavors available in this era. Frozen custard, ice milk, sorbet are not ice-cream even though they are sometimes mistakenly as ice-cream. What qualifies to be called “ice-cream”? According to US Department of Agriculture, it has to contain at least 10 percent milk fat, and a minimum of six percent non-fat milk solids. A gallon has to weigh at least 4.5 pounds. So, if you are health-conscious, better stay away from ice-cream! LoL!
There are so many variation of ice-cream these days – fried ice-cream, ice-cream mooncake (i.e. Häagen-Dazs ice-cream mooncake), ice-cream sandwich (i.e. Wall’s Ice-cream Sandwich) and many more. It is sure a blessing Malaysia have them all! Now, who wants to go for an ice-cream buffet?


What is the difference between sherbet and sorbet? Sherbet contains 1-2% milk fat and sweeter than ice cream while sorbet is made of fruit puree and no milk products. What about Gelato? Gelato is an Italian frozen dessert made from milk and sugar, combined with other flavourings. True gelato contains no cream. Recently I have had the opportunity to try Magnolia’s Dark Chocolate Gelato. Magnolia’s Dark Chocolate Gelato is icy unlike ice-cream, it’s a bit frozen but I love the taste. My sister said it’s different from ice-cream.
